Okay, jean told me to thank her for yesterday so i shall do so! (: my roomie to be is the besttttt :D
Today i attended the lessons in school for the first time. It was a little awkward because of the communication barrier. For once i felt that i should have studied bahasa properly. But thankfully there’s loi to make things easier for the English lessons. He seemed so able to mix with the kids! I think there’s so much that i could learn from my teammies.
PE was so much better because sports simply can overcome any boundaries. I joined in with them and they had fun, but i realised the seriously of the gender segregation among them. Yet the men were largely gentlemanly but not exactly sporting. I’m thankful that it’s okay back in Singapore to play with the opposite gender.
Social class was not very well planned and boring to the max. We decided not to stick with the original plan and instead came out with more engaging activities. I realised finally how hard it is to teach the upper grades and it seemed that every lesson is going to be a challenge (:
Dance was interesting! It was exciting to see the children having so much fun to what seemingly will become a rather dry session. It was fun to learn the dance with them because they were super enthusiastic!
After the dance we had a little debrief and headed back to the orphanage. Helped aldrin with his science experiment and i was having so much fun. If there was something that i love to contribute to the people of Nias, it would be hands-on work. I might not be able to engage the kids really well, but i hope that i would at least make a difference to the place that they are staying.
The best part of the day was devotion. It was nice to sing Christian songs that we knew so well in bahasa. Worship has no boundaries and i thank God for it. (: hope to have more similar experiences!
We played peace like a river with the kids together with actions. It was the first impromptu bonding session we had, so it was a remarkable step for us. Then we helped the girls with their homework. And finally, i learnt the chongkat! :D WHEEEEEEE.
