After that, liya and i together with serkit helped ibu sintha with the banners for their progression on 26th. After some discussion, we started making the lettering with foolscap and gold cloth. By the time we were almost done, it was already 1pm and time for lunch!
Lunch was yummy. We’ve been having ayam for the past few meals and i really feel so blessed for both the kids and my team (: after lunch, we continued with the banner and showed ibu. Then we started on the next banner where we simply removed the stick ons on the original banner and stuck them on the flip side while squeezing them a little closer.
Eventually when everything was done with the help of merforn and erni and asnia (who sewed the parts with me) it was already 6 plus. Rested a while andden went to do laundry while liya was busy with cleaning the drying area. wanted to watch the guys play football after that but it was already too late. :x ended up talking to Charles and Mani and took quite some photos with them. (: it was my first time talking to Mani properly and i really feel regretful that i didn’t really mingle with the older kids the other time i came to Nias. So i’m really trying hard to talk more to the older girls now. And by learning bahasa from them really brings us closer. So i thank God for that (: and yes, getting to work with the older boys too was good. Heh.
Finally went back to the dorm to rest and clean up before the Christmas celebration starts. Stayed in the dorm till about 8 plus and the team talked to prof heng about what we could possibly do in our next trip.
Christmas dinner was awesome! We had some pork, chicken, quail eggs, cap cai, and konnyaku jelly with longan! :D amie! (delicious in bahasa Nias) After the dinner i took some photos with the kids then it was time to start the celebrations! Sang some songs of worship with the kids (mei, hendrikus, me, erni) and watched some performances prepared by both the children and the Christian group. After that it was the giving of presents! The Christian group really prepared the gifts thoughtfully which made ours really pale in comparison. But we told them it was from our heart and when i saw that they’re really glad i was really happy (: hendrikus gave me this super wide smile! Haha.
By the time the Christmas celebration ended, it was already Christmas! :D or one hour past Christmas in Singapore heh. Super happy. I really love Christmas! My favourite holiday.
Anyway! Just wanna say that i really wanna know the kids better. Especially the older kids and the other kids i neglected while i was here previously. Still trying to remember all their names to the best of my ability. But i’m glad that the children are receptive to my interaction and that i’ve finally got to know some of the kids better. Like hendrikus (especially), merforn (oh my such a cutie), immelda, mani, alfin, serkit. And as for the rest at least i’m finally remembering their names, especially the older boys. Can’t possibly stick to the little girls all the time now. Must spread the love!
And today i think erni got scolded by ibu ): i have no idea why, but she was really sad and even cried during the Christmas celebration. I felt so useless cos i was of no help in making her happier. All i could do is to just sit beside her. And the thing she said to me 2 days ago just rang in my head. I remembered i asked her why she was alone after dinner and didn’t join the rest at the dining area. She replied “i have no friends”. I was in disbelief.
I didnt know what to say to her. But i remembered saying something along the lines of wati, mei and yusri. Then she just seemed so sad.
And today was similar too. she was hostile, and it was a side i didn’t see before. When yusri and wati talked to her it seemed like she just shot them down. Or maybe they were sarcastic or said something nasty in the first place. But i really didn’t know what’s happening so all i could do is just do at least stop them from arguing.
I sensed something going on. But i just don’t know what and it bugs me. And it hurts to see their relationship strained. I hope it’s not because of me. It’s been difficult on my part to try spending equal amount of time with all the kids, especially between the younger girls. But when erni sat beside me today wati seemed unhappy when i sorta rejected her request to sit at the place hendrikus occupied. But i felt it wasn’t nice to just take away hendri’s spot.
After some time into the celebration, erni went out and came back looking a lot happier and i finally saw a smile on her face. I asked whether she’s happy and she said yes with a smile. So yay! I guess there was nothing much to worry after that. She even sat with the rest of the little girls. (: wooots.
But i just hope that the next few days i’ll see them hanging around happily. Oh wells.
oh yes, the clothes rack that was done in june is still standing!
+ guaishou's! :D
