NZ 2011: #12. white water rafting!

Woke up next to the geothermal park and the whole place reeked of sulphur, the smell of rotten eggs o.O once I cleaned up and packed the bed I decided to visit the geothermal park which I originally intended to and omg was it nice! :D never fail to be fascinated by nature (: quite cool to see sulphur fumes coming out of puddles of water and rocks and see boiling mud gosh. Almost got lost though, after walking for like 10 mins or so but managed to find my way back with a little bit of luck and a little bit of running lol.

Headed off for our white water rafting office after that, changed out, got our gears, and boarded the minibus to our changing area, which was a motorground campsite. After changing into all the wetsuits and stuff, we took the bus once again into the forest, and after some express classes on how to raft, we were on the boat and down the streams we go! :D

no more photos cos batteries on my point and shoot ran out :( boooo

And so that was my virgin white water rafting experience. Really not very interesting, the most exciting part was in front, where I was finally displaced from my position and could feel some drops. The rest of the rapids were pretty slow and no one had the risk of falling off. But we saw a one-legged blue beaked rare duck along the way so it’s quite cool! :D and the closest we got to flipping was when we hit that so-called Christmas tree island which was decorated with those Christmas balls (which I didn’t see). Boring stuff.

After the rafting ended, we went back to the motorcamp ground, bathed, ate the free lunch, and went back to the minibus to the office. And YES finally a nice, long, warm bath. Haven’t had such baths since the camper’s toilet’s really small plus there’s a dire need to save water.

Back at the camper, we drove to the rotorua museum of art and history since the day was still bright and we could afford to spend some time there. And the museum was surprisingly good! (: loved the one hour tour and the view at the rooftop! And oh gosh the gallery exhibitions on the famous nz illustrators were seriously quite interesting. I didn’t know children’s books were that hard to create.

awesome museum!

Oh and the bath room history too! The basement looking thingy was amazing!

So after visiting the museum, we walked along the government gardens next to it, viewed Rachel springs (alkaline as told by our tour guide), andden went back into our camper, cooked dinner, and then drove to pak n save for some grocery shopping. And after buying all the stuff we drove back to the museum and drank beer and talked, and now everyone’s fast asleep and I’m supposed to go sleep too! Goodnight! :D

so pretty...
