me & you, we're iron carbide.

i've thought of a new analogy! HAHAHA. while talking to andylim (also an engineer, material science in NUS, freshman) this time when we were discussing about some important issues LOL. but anyway! we were saying how there's levels of ermms eye candies, crushes, blah blah blah all the way till lovers. then he was like, isn't liking someone like a continuous curve instead of discrete values? a liking for someone can increase by an infinitesimal amount in a infinitesimal small amount of time, dt. something like, you know, BOOMZ.

and so i said.

"but you know, there are many phases."

"like the Fe-C phases. there's pearlite, crystalite, martensite, austenite, iron carbide...."

"depending on the hotness (and hence temperature), and the speed you cool it from a liquid to a solid, and the percentage of Fe and C in the mixture, you'll get distinct materials with unique properties from the very same two core elements."

so maybe, i might be iron and you're carbon. we might be meant to be, but depending on many factors like perhaps the time we spend together, how much the each of us puts into this relationship, and how fast we progress, we can be either friends, lovers, or enemies. we can go really strong yet easily breakable like iron carbide, or soft but tough like pearlite.

and yes, i haven't talked about how external factors like presence of transition metals or sth can actually change the chemical structure of the Fe-C compound by encouraging or discontinuing a certain chemical reaction by altering the activation energy required for the reaction. and yes, i don't think i'll need to explain this analogy.

hmmm. damn zai. i'm putting my engineering knowledge to good use (: HOHO. and yes andylim, being a material scientist and engineer (as jieli would emphasize), i'm sure you'll learn about this very soooon. HAHA.
